I'm proud of my record for successfully teaching pupils to play piano and pass examinations when they choose to sit them. I'm happy to let my pupils, past and present, do the talking for me - so here's what a few of them have to say.

"I first began lessons with Jan as an A-Level Music student. Before starting lessons I had taught myself for a good few years and was able to play a couple of the Classics (albeit rather sloppily!). I came to Jan with a rather ambitious idea to start from Grade 5, and from the get-go she was incredibly supportive of this. I remember being very nervous about my first lesson particularly because I very much played for myself and only a select few had heard me play, however I knew within minutes that Jan would be incredibly easy to talk to and learn from. Within only a short period of being a pupil of Jan, I could not only feel my playing was improving radically; but also my understanding of music theory.

 

I began to feel much more confident in my playing, and Jan really helped me understand the importance of detail and I went from someone who 'just played the right notes', to someone who really understood the importance of the phrasing, articulation and the music. Since then, I have completed Grades 5 - 8 practical, as well as my Grade 5 theory. I passed each and every one first time (despite being extremely nervous about exam situations), and I simply put that down to Jan's approach to teaching and practice.

 

I feel my overall understanding of the piano and all it's intricacies have developed so much during the few years I've spent under Jan's tuition, and I now feel so much more confident and reassured in my playing. Since completing Grade 8, Jan has still been an amazing tutor and is always ready to help with any pieces I'm working on and give me guidance in my own musical career. A truly wonderful teacher and I feel very thankful for all I've learnt from her."
